An announcement on social media reports the recruitment of 135 logistics and transport managers at the port of Douala (PAD), the first gateway for goods to Cameroon.
According to said advertisement attributed to the port authority, the profile of candidates is reserved for those who hold a baccalaureate and higher technician certificate in the field. All applications should be submitted to the following single email address: “rtc.pad@my.com”.
The conditions to be fulfilled are among others: to be of Cameroonian nationality; be 35 years old by January 1, 2021 at the latest, be physically fit, etc. At the end, the “definitively selected candidates” are required to receive a payment of 21,500 FCFA. The deadline for submitting applications is June 21, 2020 at 3 p.m.
Verdict: The port of Douala does not recruit 135 logistics and transport managers
Checking with the PAD, it is revealed that this is a false recruitment advertisement: “The port of Douala has not launched such recruitment. This is a scam maneuver. The signature on the document is a scan of an authentic document that the counterfeiters just used to deceive. So this is fake news, “confirms a PAD official.
In addition, by observing the document meticulously, one notices that the electronic address proposed to the candidate is “My.com” which is rather an international subsidiary of the company Mail.ru which proposes games, services and products related to Internet. My.com operates under the myMail, myChat, myGames and Maps.Me. brands and services. My.com is headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and a US office in Mountain View, California.
The port of Doulala, on the other hand, generally uses a business address with the extension “@ pad.com” as in the advertisement below and not “My.com”.
