The image of a screenshot shared extensively via WhatsApp in Cameroon purports to show an excerpt from the show “The 12 blows of noon-The fight of the masters”, broadcast on the French television channel TF1. The capture was circulated in this Facebook post dated Thursday, July 15, 2021. On it, we can read: “In which African country are girls the most unfaithful? Three answers are offered to the candidate: Senegal, Ivory Coast and Cameroon. The box marked in green suggests that the correct answer is? Cameroon!

Only here it is: this image has been manipulated. SBBC revisited the show in question, which pitted iconic “12 strokes of noon” champions, on the occasion of “Battle of the Masters”, the final of which aired on July 10 in prime time. In the program aired Wednesday, July 7 (which can be found here), the question that presenter Jean-Luc Reichmann asks the candidate is different from the one that can be read in the screenshot that is currently circulating.
“What country are people born in Yaoundé from? », Asks the presenter during the fourth round called« The masterstroke ». Here, the “midday teacher” must answer a series of five questions which contain three propositions, one of which is hidden. Among the responses proposed (Senegal, Ivory Coast, Cameroon), Cameroon’s box was hidden. ?It is one of the main cities and the capital of Cameroon. So this is Cameroon, “replied the candidate, thus revealing the hidden box which happened to be the correct answer. Zooming in on the manipulated image also helps to update the deception, as the font used for the question differs from that of the proposed answers.
