It is a viral photo on social networks. It shows a masked individual carrying a sign with the following message: “I have the macabo of the Montreal police to racial profiling”.According to the sign, the scene would take place in Montreal, Canada. But the controversy arose because some believed it was a photomontage, as the phrase “I have the macabo” on the sign is a Cameroonianism that would be unintelligible in Canada. Indeed, in the Cameroonian context, “j’ai le macabo” means to have rage, to be angry or annoyed. In short, this expression expresses discontent or anger.

En contactant l’auteure du post sur les réseaux, confirmation est faite qu’il s’agit d’une photo authentique. Mireille T., résidente au Canada, confirme alors : « C’est une photo réelle et authentique. Elle a été prise le 8 juin à Montréal au cours d’une marche contre le racisme ».
L’authenticité de la photo querellée est également rendue possible par l’utilisation d’un petit logiciel gratuit : JPEGsnoop. Il signale après analyse : « image has high probability of being original ». En français, cela signifie que l’image a une grande probabilité d’être une photo originale.
