The muffler in image (photo) is presented on social networks as being a production of the Industrial Cotton Company of Cameroon (Cicam), the only textile company in the Cemac zone, as part of the fight against coronavirus. “I learn that this piece of cloth is the muffler produced by Cicam with public funding. This state-owned company announces today that this piece of fabric will cost 1300 FCFA to its buyers ”, we can read on social networks.

However, contradictory versions have called into question the paternity of the said masks at Cicam. Among these versions, there is the one of this senior official of the public administration who declares: “Cicam only makes available to the manufacturers the immaculate white fabric which is suitable for the masks. Other fabrics already colored with chemicals are strongly discouraged due to the toxicity of the dyes “.

Verdict: This protective mask is made by Cicam

This is indeed a Cicam production. The sources contacted within this company confirm. “Yes, we are the ones making this,” one employee said. On the company’s Facebook page, the information was confirmed on May 7: “Cicam mask, washable, 100% cotton, available at our Laking and Ecotex points of sale at a price of 1300 CFA francs”.

The company adds: “It should be noted that it is washable 15 times which amounts to 86 FCFA per mask and that it meets all the standards set by the WHO unlike what others sell for 500 FCFA”.

Cicam recommends providing several batches of masks to change them very regularly during the day, without forgetting to respect all the recommended hygiene measures (hand washing, etc.). Do not touch your mask once it is put on the face.
